The GRAMMY Museum® is pleased to announce Bennett VanOudenallen of Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati as the recipient of the 2021 Jane Ortner Education Award. The award honors K-12 academic teachers who use music in the classroom as a powerful educational tool. VanOudenallen will receive an honorarium and Mount Notre Dame High School will also receive a grant.
A total of 25 music teachers, from 24 cities across 16 states, have been announced as semifinalists for the Music Educator Award™ presented by the Recording Academy® and GRAMMY Museum®. In total, more than 1,135 initial nominations were submitted from 49 states. Nominations for the 2023 Music Educator Award are now open at www.grammymusicteacher.com.
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (JUNE 28, 2021) — The GRAMMY Museum Grant Program announced today that $220,000 in grants will be awarded to 12 recipients in the United States to help facilitate a range of research on a variety of subjects, as well as support a number of archiving and preservation programs.

The objective is to elevate a new generation of Black music creators through a career development program for college students that will begin in 2022.

Six-time GRAMMY® winner Amy Winehouse has been widely renowned not just as a British music icon and pop royalty, but as a trendsetting fashion influencer. To showcase the late singer’s iconic outfits, as well as never-before-seen handwritten lyrics, journal entries and other reflections from her family’s personal archive, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents Beyond Black — The Style Of Amy Winehouse, which will be the first-ever Winehouse exhibit in the United States. The exhibit will open on Jan. 17, 2020 and will run through April 13.
Sixty years after the release of their first hit, “Walk, Don’t Run,” the Ventures are considered the most influential, best-selling instrumental band in rock and roll history. To showcase the group’s impact on pop culture, guitar players, and their worldwide fan base, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly announces Walk, Don’t Run: 60 Years Of The Ventures, a new exhibit showcasing original items from the group’s six-decade career including instruments, tour programs, never-before-seen photos, vinyl, and more. The exhibit will open on Dec. 7, and will run until Aug. 3, 2020.
To celebrate the milestone 20th anniversary of the Latin GRAMMY Awards® , the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents Latin GRAMMY® , 20 Years Of Excellence. On Nov. 18, the Museum will kick off the opening of the new Latin music exhibit and its new third floor with a full day of programming, including an education program for students, live performances, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy® and Michael Sticka, President of the GRAMMY Museum, along with prestigious Latin artists and personalities. The evening event is free, including entry to the Museum, and is open to the public on a special first-come, first-served basis. The exhibit will run through spring 2020.
The GRAMMY Museum® is pleased to announce Heather Moore of Arcadia High School in Arcadia, California, as the recipient of the 2019 Jane Ortner Education Award. The award honors K-12 academic teachers who use music in the classroom as a powerful educational tool. Moore will receive an honorarium and will be recognized later this year at a special GRAMMY Museum event in Los Angeles. Arcadia High School will also receive a grant.
The GRAMMY Museum® announced today the launch of GRAMMY Camp® Miami, presented by Royal Caribbean International, in summer 2020. The annual signature music industry camp for U.S. high school students will be held in Los Angeles from Tuesday, July 14–Saturday, July 18, 2020, at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, followed by the first-ever camp in Miami, from Tuesday, July 28–Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at the Royal Caribbean Entertainment Studios on Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus.
Music and photography share a common nexus for experiencing feeling and are linked in contextualizing human emotion. During a five-year project led by photographer Richard Ehrlich, these two art forms came together in a unique and moving way and aimed to redefine the profound and transcendent influence music has on human emotion through facial expression. Ehrlich accomplished this by capturing close-up facial expressions of artists listening to their favorite songs as seen in his photography book Face The Music published by Steidl. To showcase these portraits, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly announces Face The Music, a new photography exhibit showcasing 41 legendary musicians including Dee De Bridgewater, Michael Bublé, Kenny Burrell, Sheryl Crow, Gustavo Dudamel, Quincy Jones, Iggy Pop, RZA, Esperanza Spalding, Ringo Starr, and many more. The exhibit will open to the public on Sept. 12 and will run through Jan. 6, 2020.
The GRAMMY Museum® announced today the promotion of Michael Sticka to President of the GRAMMY Museum, with a contract that extends through 2022. As President, Sticka will continue to lead the Museum’s growth and sustainability strategy as an independent nonprofit arts organization and oversee all aspects of Museum operations, including curatorial, development, marketing, grants and awards, public and education programs, and more.
One of the key players behind the most memorable concert tours of the 1970s, Jerry Weintraub (and Concerts West) recognized the potential for great artists to play for larger audiences and to create one-of-a-kind events.. Weintraub worked with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, John Denver, The Carpenters, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Rick James, Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, The Commodores, the Bee Gees, The Moody Blues, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney. To showcase Weintraub’s business acumen, moxie, and sense of showmanship during his decades focusing on artist management and concert promotion, the GRAMMY Museum® , with support from the Weintraub Family Foundation, proudly announces Jerry Weintraub Presents…, a new exhibit showcasing original items from Weintraub’s most notable tours, including personalized jackets, tour documents, contracts, and more. The exhibit will open on August 15, when Jerry’s son, Michael Weintraub, Bob Finkelstein (Former President of Management 3 and Concerts West and Co-Chairman of Frank Sinatra Enterprises), John Meglen (Co-CEO Concerts West), Claire Rothman (General Manager and Vice President of the Forum), Sims Hinds (Tour promoter for John Denver, Neil Diamond, The Eagles and The Beach Boys) and Peter Jackson (Tour Management for The Moody Blues and Eric Clapton) will discuss the stories behind this exhibit moderated by music industry analyst and critic, Bob Lefsetz, at the Clive Davis Theater. The exhibit will run through early December 2019.
The GRAMMY Museum® Grant Program announced today that $200,000 in grants will be awarded to 15 recipients in the United States to help facilitate a range of research on a variety of subjects, as well as support a number of archiving and preservation programs. Research projects include work on musical anhedonia, musical training’s relationship to complex memories, and the relationship between cognitive function and singing accuracy. Preservation projects include the archiving of uncirculated John Hartford jam tapes, 960 audio reels of Cajun and zydeco artists, and 221 rare interview recordings with African-American actors, performers, composers, musicians, and scholars, among many other preservation projects.
The GRAMMY Museum® announced today that 90 talented high school students from 74 U.S. cities across 23 states have been selected as participants in the 15th annual GRAMMY Camp® program, and The Head And The Heart and JoJo will be this year’s guest artists. The signature music industry camp for U.S. high school students will be held in Los Angeles from Tuesday, July 23–Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music.

To celebrate the group’s career, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents Backstreet Boys: The Experience, a one-of-a-kind fan experience that opens to the public on Wednesday, April 10 and runs until Sept. 2, 2019.
Whether it’s the national anthem played before every game, the music ballplayers select to accent their “walk up” to home plate, or the seventh inning stretch when fans sing “Take Me Out To The Ball Game,” music is an integral part of the baseball experience. To celebrate the soundtrack of our national pastime, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents Take Me Out To The Ball Game: Popular Music And The National Pastime. The exhibit will open on March 14, when Bob Santelli, Founding Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum and the exhibit’s curator, will discuss the history of music in baseball with Barry Zito at the Museum’s Clive Davis Theater as part of the Museum’s Public Programs. The exhibit will run through baseball season until fall 2019.

Eight-time GRAMMY® winner, Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and Oscar-nominated artist Dolly Parton has been widely renowned as not just a music legend, but a fashion icon. To showcase iconic costumes and pieces from her personal archive, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents Diamond In A Rhinestone World: The Costumes Of Dolly Parton presented by City National Bank, which will be the first exhibit Parton has had in the United States outside of her Tennessee theme park Dollywood. The exhibit will open on Feb. 4, when Parton will discuss stories and the history behind these costumes at the Museum’s Clive Davis Theater as part of an exclusive Town Hall Program. The exhibit opens to the public on Feb. 5 and will run through March 17. Additionally, Parton will be honored at the 2019 MusiCares® Person of the Year tribute on Friday, Feb. 8. The tribute will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center two nights prior to the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards®.
Widely known as the godfather of music photography, the late Jim Marshall maintained a 50-year career that resulted in more than 500 album covers, an abundance of magazine covers, and some of the most celebrated images in blues, jazz, country, and rock and roll, including those from Johnny Cash’s notable Folsom and San Quentin prison concerts. To showcase these powerful snapshots of a legendary musician by a legendary photographer, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents The Prison Concerts: Folsom And San Quentin (Jim Marshall’s Photographs Of Johnny Cash), a new exhibit showcasing Marshall’s photos from Cash’s historic prison concerts in 1968 and 1969 featured in the art book Johnny Cash At Folsom & San Quentin. The exhibit will open on Oct. 23, when Amelia Davis, Jim Marshall’s longtime assistant and the sole beneficiary of his estate; John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash’s son; and Scott Bomar, author of Johnny Cash At Folsom & San Quentin; will discuss the stories behind these photographs at the Clive Davis Theater as part of the Museum’s An Evening With program moderated by GRAMMY Museum Artistic Director Scott Goldman. The exhibit will run through February 2019.
The GRAMMY Museum® has expanded its executive leadership team and appointed Michael Sticka as Executive Director, responsible for the organization’s strategic direction and leading all aspects of operations, including curatorial, development, marketing, grants and awards, public and education programs, and more. Previously, Sticka served as Controller and Senior Director of Finance and Administration and was critical in overseeing the Museum’s integration with the GRAMMY Foundation® in 2017, as well as designing and managing a strategic plan for the combined organization’s future.
The GRAMMY Museum® and Warner Bros. have teamed up to present “The Get Animated Invasion,” an interactive exhibit that celebrates the music that generations have come to know and love from Warner Bros. iconic animation shorts and films. Warner Bros. has a long history of invading pop culture though music, from popularizing classical compositions to creating mainstream hits that stand the test of time; the latest of which is the animated feature “Smallfoot,” featuring an all-star voice cast and original music including a new song from Niall Horan. The pop-up exhibit will take over the GRAMMY Museum’s second floor, Aug. 18–Sept. 9, 2018, making this Get Animated’s second pop-up exhibit following their inaugural invasion in New York last fall.
The GRAMMY Museum® has teamed up with Andaz West Hollywood, the most iconic music hotel on the famed Sunset Strip, to showcase never-before-seen 1960s Summer of Love-era posters for “The Psychedelic Art of The Summer of Love” Salon exhibit launching at the hotel on Wednesday, July 25. The exclusive collection will be on display and open to the public at no charge through Sept. 30, 2018, and will feature 17 original posters from notable 1960s visual psychedelic artists, including Wes Wilson, Bonnie MacLean, Jim Blashfield, Greg Irons, and Stanley Mouse. The Summer of Love Salon Art Exhibit will be unveiled through a kick-off event at Andaz West Hollywood on July 25 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
GRAMMY® -winning comedy duo Cheech & Chong will be the subject of a new exhibit opening at the GRAMMY Museum® on 4/20. Titled Cheech & Chong: Still Rollin’— Celebrating 40 Years Of Up In Smoke, the exhibit is curated in collaboration with GRAMMY-winning producer Lou Adler, who uncovered the legendary duo, produced many of their albums, and directed the film.
The GRAMMY Museum® L.A. LIVE and Bulova are pleased to present DEEP HEART: Roots, Rock & The Music Of Carlos Vives, a new exhibit opening Monday, Nov. 13, 2017. On the night of the opening, Carlos Vives will visit the GRAMMY Museum to participate in its popular “An Evening With” public program series featuring an intimate performance and Q&A hosted by David Fricke, senior writer at Rolling Stone and the host of “The Writer’s Block” on SiriusXM Radio.
Cisco and the Good Life Foundation – the charitable organization founded by GRAMMY®- nominated band OneRepublic – are supporting music education across the country by awarding $5,000 grants to 20 public high school music education programs demonstrating significant need.
The GRAMMY Museum® is pleased to announce its plans to expand the forthcoming exhibit celebrating the 40th anniversary of seminal L.A. punk rock band X. Previously set to open on June 30, 2017, on the Museum’s fourth floor, X: 40 Years of Punk in Los Angeles will now be displayed on the second floor in the Museum’s Special Exhibits Gallery, opening Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. With more artifacts and space than previously planned, the exhibit will give visitors a glimpse into how X’s four original members – Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake – quickly established the band as one of the best in the first wave of L.A.’s flourishing punk scene.
The GRAMMY Museum® at L.A. LIVE, in collaboration with Lou Adler, GRAMMY® -winning producer and co-founder of the Monterey International Pop Festival, will present a new exhibit titled Monterey International Pop Festival: Music, Love, and Flowers, 1967. The exhibit will explore how music became the counterculture’s most significant cultural expression in 1967, and the three days in mid-June when thousands of youth flocked to the Bay Area for the Monterey Pop Festival.
The GRAMMY Museum® has acquired the five-piece DW Drums Collector’s Series® drum kit played during GRAMMY® winner Bruno Mars’ tribute to the late GRAMMY-winning icon Prince on the 59th GRAMMY Awards® on Feb. 12, 2017 at STAPLES Center. The five-piece set was donated to the Museum’s permanent collection by Oxnard, California-based, drum manufacturers, DW Drums, and is now on display in the Museum’s lobby.
The Kennedy Center, in collaboration with the GRAMMY Museum® in Los Angeles, announces Pete Seeger and the Power of Song: Tribute to a Folk Legend, on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. This one-night-only event will celebrate the artistry and lasting influence of GRAMMY® -winning American folk icon Pete Seeger with some of yesterday and today’s most beloved artists performing his memorable classics. The musical evening will feature GRAMMY winners Rosanne Cash, Judy Collins, and Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul & Mary), along with Tony Trischka and Josh White Jr. Artists are subject to change.
The GRAMMY Museum® will celebrate one of the most pivotal years in music — and the photographer who captured it — with a special limited showing of Jim Marshall’s 1967. Organized by The San Francisco Arts Commission in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of San Francisco’s Summer of Love, the exhibition will feature a selection of 60 images from the thousands Jim Marshall took while he documented history in the making. This special exhibition will be on display through May 14, 2017.
The GRAMMY Museum® , The Recording Academy® , Beijing SEEC Culture Media Co., Ltd., Sanya Municipal People’s Government, and China Music Vision announced today their partnership to develop the first-ever GRAMMY Museum in China, expected to open within the next three years. The announcement was made during a ceremony in Beijing that was attended by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli, Deputy Executive Director Rita George, the Mayor of Sanya Mr. Yanjun WU, SEEC CEO Boming WANG and President Li WANG, and China Music Vision CEO Mingzhang SUN and Director Ling YAN.
