The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to host a screening of the new documentary film, Violeta Existe, followed by a panel discussion featuring Javiera Parra, Ángel Parra, & Francisca Valenzuela, moderated by Pili Montilla (Dash Radio) and Raúl Campos (KCRW) from the podcast, Pili, Raul & la Musica, followed by intimate performances by Francisca Valenzuela and Javiera Parra.
Violeta Existe is the journey that Ángel Parra Orrego undertakes on the centenary of the birth of his grandmother Violeta Parra, where he intends to reinterpret the album Las Últimas Composicions de Violeta Parra, the last great album by the singer-songwriter considered to be the most important piece of Chilean music, recorded shortly before her death and that would become a fundamental and emblematic piece of Latin American popular culture.
To do this, he goes to her sister Javiera and her father Ángel Parra, and they summon different musicians and singers with whom they live and relate intimately what it means to reinterpret the great Violeta Parra and her work.
Violeta Existe deals with death, the work of maintaining a legacy, expanding Violeta’s music so that she can be a universal voice. It is a documentary that goes through different states of mind, managing to move people who have seen this historical material.
