The Drop: Aly & AJ

To celebrate the release of their first album in 14 years, and the release of its new deluxe album in February, the GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to welcome Aly & AJ to the Museum’s Clive Davis Theater. Following a recent performance on Good Morning America and ahead of an upcoming tour, Aly & AJ will come to the GRAMMY Museum for an intimate conversation moderated by Stereogum’s Rachel Brodsky about their career and latest music, followed by a performance.

After rising to fame as teen stars in the worlds of pop and TV sitcoms—beloved right at the cross-section of millennials and Gen Z, as evidenced by the recent runway TikTok revival of their 2007 kiss-off “Potential Breakup Song”—the sisters have quietly worked on songs. They chiseled away at their craft, manifesting themselves honestly. Their latest album is a collection that’s more than just an album – it’s a sonic rebirth.

Produced by Yves Rothman (Yves Tumor, Girlpool) and recorded at the legendary Sunset Sound, the recent album, a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun, finds its title taken from a lyric on the record that captures the essence of the collection – it’s a blend of an unbreakable bond between two sisters, their west coast energy, and their innate sensibility to tell a timeless story. Last year Vogue called it the “feel-good album of the summer” while The Wall Street Journal said it “recalls the jangling guitars and warm soundscapes of Fleetwood Mac”.

The album finds two singer/songwriters balancing effortless melodies, lush instrumentation and heartachingly relatable lyrics. And somehow they still hold onto the charismatic charms that made them stand out as pop powerhouses in the mid-00s.
