PETE SEEGER TO JOIN JUDY COLLINS, STEVE EARLE, BILLY BRAGG, TONY TRISCHKA, THE KLEZMATICS, JOHN COHEN & THE DUST BUSTERS, MIKE + RUTHY, JAY UNGAR AND MOLLY MASON

Location: Whitman Theater

Saturday, September 22, at 7:30 p.m. at The Whitman Theater, the concert served as the pinnacle of the Woody Guthrie Centennial Celebration in Brooklyn, and was the fifth official installment of the series. Seeger, an original member of the historic 1940’s NYC based Almanac Singers with Guthrie, and one of Woody’s life-time friends, joined the previously announced lineup of Judy Collins, Steve Earle, Billy Bragg, Tony Trischka, The Klezmatics, John Cohen & The Dust Busters, Mike + Ruthy, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, who performed various Guthrie classics.

“The goal of The Woody Guthrie Centennial Celebration Concert is not just to pay tribute to Guthrie’s obvious contributions to American music, but to also broaden the national understanding of his cultural impact,” said GRAMMY Museum Executive Director, Bob Santelli. “The addition of Pete Seeger, a folk icon in his own right, speaks volumes about Guthrie’s influence.”

The Brooklyn concert brought Woody’s story and songs back to Brooklyn and the NYC metropolitan area, where Woody lived for 27 years. The concert took place on the Brooklyn College campus where Guthrie took numerous courses in the 1950’s.

“Bringing Woody back home to Brooklyn will be especially emotional for all of us,” said Nora Guthrie, Woody’s daughter. “We lived in Coney Island for a good long time. Woody loved it here.”
