Much in the world has changed since the original version of the Blind Boys of Alabama first raised their youthful voices together in 1939. More than 70 years later, they’ve managed to achieve global, living-legend status in the world of music. Honored by both the GRAMMYs and The National Endowment for the Arts with Lifetime Achievement Awards, inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and winners of five GRAMMY® Awards, The Blind Boys have attained the highest levels of recognition in a career that spans over 7 decades and shows no signs of diminishing. Longevity and major awards aside, The Blind Boys have earned praise for their remarkable interpretations of everything from traditional gospel favorites to contemporary spiritual material. Their performances have been experienced by millions and their live shows are roof-raising musical events that appeal to audiences of all cultures, as evidenced by an international itinerary that has taken them to almost every continent. The band’s latest release, Take the High Road, marks the band’s first foray into country music, guided by co-producer Jamey Johnson and featuring an incredible range of guest vocalists such as Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Lee Ann Womack and The Oak Ridge Boys. Before an audience of 200, hear founding member Jimmy Carter and the Blind Boys discuss their long journey and how their passion has led to many critically acclaimed worldwide triumphs. After the interview, moderated by MusiCares Vice President Scott Goldman, the group will take questions from the audience and will perform. Sara and Sean Watkins, formerly of Nickel Creek, will also collaborate with the group on stage.
