On View - Sep 30, 2013 - Sep 30, 2013

Austin, Texas-based guitarist Gary Clark Jr. is a powerful and inspired mix of blues, contemporary soul,hip-hop and rock and roll. A triple threat as guitarist, emotive singer and involving songwriter, Clark first picked up a guitar at age 12. He quickly found his way into the fertile Austin scene, taken under the wing of long-time club owner and artists advocate Clifford Antone and such local stalwarts as Jimmie Vaughan. With their support he honed early skills with blues giants James Cotton and Hubert Sumlin. Later he connected that history and influence on Cream and the Stones, exploring that terrain, yet all the while absorbing his other heroes Tupac, Nirvana and The Ramones. Today, the only thing growing faster than Clark’s acclaim is the scope of his talents and tastes. Over the past several months, Clark has been invited to perform with Eric Clapton, Alicia Keys, the Dave Matthews Band and the Rolling Stones and has recorded with Alicia Keys, Booker T. Jones, The Dream, and more. He has travelled the last two years performing every major US, European, and South American festivals, stopping in Australia and Japan to awe-inspiring crowds. Gary Clark Jr will be featured in performance in Jay Z’s concert documentary film, Made In America, which premieres on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT Oct. 11. His U.S. tour, beginning September 26 at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, has already sold out. Join The GRAMMY Museum and The Recording Academy L.A. Chapter as they welcome Clark to the Clive Davis Theater for a special interview and performance. Vice President of The GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares, Scott Goldman, will host the evening.
