With the release of his critically acclaimed eponymous debut in 1971, Emitt Rhodes gained a reputation as a “one-man Beatles,” writing, recording and producing the album in his home studio. But after contract battles and industry demands, Rhodes saw his last album, Farewell to Paradise, released in 1973. No one thought they’d ever see a new Emitt Rhodes album…until now. Set for release on Feb. 26 on Omnivore Recordings, Rainbow Ends will mark Rhodes’ first album in 43 years. The album features special guest appearances by Aimee Mann, Susanna Hoffs (Bangles), composer/producer Jon Brion, Wilco’s Nels Cline and Pat Sansone, Bleu, and Probyn Gregory & Nelson Bragg from Brian Wilson’s band, among others. A PledgeMusic campaign has been set up for pre-orders, offering exclusive collectibles, the album itself, and even a day in Rhodes’ studio. Ahead of his showcase at South by Southwest in March, the GRAMMY Museum welcomes Rhodes to the Clive Davis Theater for an intimate discussion surrounding his long-awaited new album, moderated by music journalist Steve Hochman. The conversation will be followed by a special performance.
