Berlin will forever be recognized as the American progenitor of electro-pop artistry with sensually appealing lyrics. This Los Angeles-based synth pop group, founded by bassist John Crawford, singer Terri Nunn and keyboard player David Diamond, made its first national impression with the provocative single “Sex (I’m A…)” from the 1982 debut EP Pleasure Victim. The group was filled out by guitarist Rick Olsen, keyboard player Matt Reid and drummer Rob Brill. Berlin’s first full-length LP was the gold Love Life in 1984. The following year, the group was pared down to a trio of Crawford, Nunn, and Brill. Berlin topped the charts in 1986 with the Academy Award and Golden Globe winning single “Take My Breath Away,” the love theme from the movie Top Gun. In 1987, Nunn left for a solo career and Crawford and Brill teamed up in the Big F. In 1999, the band reunited and released Berlin Live: Sacred and Profane then followed up with their first full-length studio release in over 15 years, Voyeur. Since the band’s formation, Terri Nunn and Berlin have received a total of twelve gold and platinum album awards and Nunn’s unyielding influence has earned her the #11 spot on VH1.com’s “100 Greatest Women in Rock.” Today, Berlin is made up of band cofounder Terri Nunn, percussionist Chris Olivas, guitarist Carlton Bost, and keyboard player Dave Schultz. Their seventh studio album, Animal incorporates modern electronic dance music, yet remains true to the groundbreaking synth-electro-pop sounds and amazing vocals that continue to define Berlin. Please join us in the Clive Davis Theater as we welcome Berlin to celebrate the release of their highly anticipated album, Animal. Hosted by Scott Goldman, Vice President of GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares, hear Nunn discuss her re-ignited love affair with electronic music and the feeling that Berlin could make a unique mark on the EDM (electronic dance music) scene. After the interview, Berlin will take audience questions.
