Spotlight: The Dustbowl Revival

IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE AMERICANA MUSIC ASSOCIATION The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to welcome Americana soul band The Dustbowl Revival to the Clive Davis Theater for an intimate conversation about their career, moderated by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Scott Goldman. The conversation will be followed by a special performance. Comprising of eight full-time members, The Dustbowl Revival are known for their unique sound that combines New Orleans funk, soul, pre-war blues, and roots music, into a genre-hopping, time-bending dance party that coaxes new fire out of familiar coal. The band is currently on tour in support of their self-titled, fourth studio album, which spent three weeks on the Billboard charts, hit No. 1 on Amazon Americana-Alt-Country, No. 2 on Amazon Folk, and spent four months on the Americana radio chart, peaking in the Top 20. The band was founded in 2008 in the bohemian enclave of Venice Beach, Calif. Over the last five years, Dustbowl have toured over 200 days per year and become known for their free-flowing and joyous live shows, combining their funk rhythm and brass section with a fast-picking string band section —- opening for bands as diverse as Lake Street Dive, Trombone Shorty, and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The band also reached a larger audience with their music video featuring Dick Van Dyke that went on to garner more than 10 million cumulative views and be featured in an HBO documentary. While the band have been known for their old-time and bluegrass roots, they have departed from those styles and evolved more into modern soul music. Now, with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys), Dustbowl’s latest album delivers 11 songs with a heavy funk and soul vibe, including “Honey I Love You”, which features GRAMMY-winning blues artist Keb’ Mo’.
