Reel to Reel: Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story

Featuring a conversation with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Heather Parry
Sean “Diddy” Combs is the definition of a mogul. As the Chairman and CEO of Combs Enterprises, he has a diverse portfolio of businesses and investments covering the music, fashion, fragrance, beverage, marketing, film, television, and media industries. His label Bad Boy Entertainment successfully carved out a new niche within the hip-hop genre, fostering superstar talent including Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, TLC, Boyz II Men, Lil’ Kim, and French Montana. Combs continues to apply the same drive and entrepreneurial spirit to his philanthropic work and political activism, leading the response to Flint, Michigan’s water crisis by pledging 1 million bottles of AQUAhydrate water along with long-term assistance to the area. Most recently, he provided funding, aid, and supplies to victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston. In 2016, Combs opened Capital Prep Charter School in Harlem, advocating his lifelong commitment to supporting education and empowering future leaders. Combs’ most recent achievement, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story, debuted on iTunes in July and hit No. 1 on the iTunes Movie Chart. Directed by Daniel Kaufman and produced by Live Nation Productions, the film is a raw and exclusive look behind the scenes at the history and legacy of Bad Boy through a complex portrait of the label’s mastermind, Combs, as he tries to reunite his Bad Boy Family during a frantic three-week rehearsal period. As the biggest names from Bad Boy’s history prepare to celebrate the label’s 20th anniversary, the film traces the label’s emergence in Harlem and Brooklyn, follows its meteoric rise, explores the tragic death of Biggie Smalls, and celebrates Bad Boy’s influence in reshaping music, fashion, marketing and culture — all while revealing the love and commitment that formed the bonds between the Bad Boy family. The film culminates with the May 2016 performances at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn when iconic artists Puff Daddy, Lil’ Kim, Mase, Faith Evans, Mario Winans, 112, Total, Carl Thomas, and The Lox performed hit after hit to a sold-out audience. The GRAMMY Museum is pleased to present an intimate screening of Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story, followed by a conversation with Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Heather Parry, President of Production, Film & Television for Live Nation, hosted by Executive Director Scott Goldman.

Since joining the company in 2015, Parry has led the production of two notable projects including Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends), which was screened at the GRAMMY Museum earlier this year; and Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017 and was immediately acquired by Apple Music.
