Celebrating the Music of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and welcome Lou Adler, David Gorman, Tim Curry, & David Foster to the Museum’s intimate 200-seat Clive Davis Theater for a conversation moderated by Fat Mike discussing the music behind the iconic film.

ABOUT LOU ADLER

Lou Adler is amongst the most legendary revered individuals in the entertainment world. He started his music career in 1959 with his writing partner, Herb Alpert, producing top 10 records for Jan & Dean. In 1960, Adler co-wrote with Sam Cooke and Herb Alpert, “Wonderful World”. Through his Dunhill Productions, he produced the first live rock music album “Johnny Rivers Live at the Whisky A Go Go” in 1964. He co-produced the Monterey International Pop Festival in June of 1967 (and its subsequent film). Lou Adler produced six gold and platinum albums for Carole King of which “Tapestry”, 1973’ GRAMMY album of the year, continues to sell today far beyond 25 million copies. In 1975, Adler produced the Rocky Horror Picture Show which remains the longest running film in theatrical distribution which this year celebrates 50 years. In 1978, Adler directed the comedy hit “Up in Smoke” starring Cheech and Chong. Among his many achievements, accolades and awards, Lou Adler was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is the recipient of The GRAMMY’s lifetime achievement award. As the co-founder of the Rainbow Bar and Grill in 1972 and owner of The Roxy, Adler continues to have an active role in the development of the Sunset Strip and the subsequent impact it has on American Pop culture. At the present time, Lou is in the studio producing an album with Neil Young. Lou always considers his greatest production his 7 sons, and his wife Page his greatest supporter from the beginning of his career, even though she wasn’t born yet.

ABOUT DAVID GORMAN

David Gorman is a GRAMMY and Clio-winning Creative Director whose work has reimagined how artists’ legacies live on in both physical releases and digital experiences. In the digital music space, he co-created iTunes Essentials at Apple—the blueprint for music discovery that every DSP has copied since—and later served as Amazon Music’s Global Catalog Programming Lead. He’s also founded two creative agencies whose past clients include Apple Music, YouTube, Sony, Universal, Warner Music Group, and Tower Records. From his tenure as Rhino Entertainment’s Creative Czar through to his current role, Gorman has created projects for a pantheon of legends, including Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Paul Simon, Miles Davis, Willie Nelson, The Grateful Dead, and others. Working with Keith Richards on a variety of releases, Gorman earned his second Grammy nomination and the first ever Clio Gold awarded to a music package. He’s also spent over a decade working with Lou Adler and Ode Records, creating new releases from the historic Monterey International Pop Festival and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, as well as projects with Merry Clayton, Cheech & Chong, and Carole King. Today, as Creative Director at Exceleration Music, he continues to champion iconic catalogs while helping amplify new voices across the company’s family of independent labels.

ABOUT TIM CURRY

Tim Curry is an English actor and singer best known for his iconic role as Dr. Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), which became a cult phenomenon. He first originated the role on stage in London (1973), later reprising it in Los Angeles and on Broadway before immortalising it on film. Curry’s career spans theatre, music, film, television, and voice acting. Highlights include Clue, IT, Legend, Annie, and Muppet Treasure Island. He has also voiced numerous animated characters and released three albums.

ABOUT DAVID FOSTER

DAVID FOSTER is one of the most illustrious composers of our time. With 16 Grammy Awards, including three for Producer of the Year, an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, and Three Oscar nominations for “Best Original Songs,” Foster has earned a reputation as a keen spotter of new talent, playing a key role in the discovery and career launches of Celine Dion, Josh Groban, and Michael Bublé.

Few other individuals can claim to have their fingerprints on more major moments in all of popular music than DAVID FOSTER. He has created hit songs for a diverse array of artists including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Chicago, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind Fire, Tony Braxton, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Seal, Chaka Khan, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Hall Oates, Brandy, ’N Sync, Boz Scaggs, and Gloria Estefan.

In 2008 and 2011, Foster stepped out as a performer in his own right with Hitman, David Foster and Friends PBS specials which became PBS’ highest-rated shows in decades. In 2018/19 Foster started touring with his show ‘An Intimate Evening with David Foster’. The shows garnered rave reviews and were so successful that he now devotes much of his time to selling out concerts around the world.

Foster composed the scores to Boop! a new Broadway musical about the iconic animated character “Betty Boop.” In 2023 David released a Christmas album with Katharine McPhee, titled “Christmas Songs.”

Foster has made charitable work his life’s other priority. Meeting with a young girl from his hometown who was awaiting a liver transplant had a profound impact and led him to create The David Foster Foundation in 1986. Its mission is to provide financial support to Canadian families with children in need of live-saving organ transplants, along with a new focus on organ donor awareness.
