An Evening With PJ Morton

With Special Guest Host Rico Love

PJ Morton is a soul singer, songwriter, performer and producer based in New Orleans. Following four consecutive years of GRAMMY wins as a self-released, self-produced artist, in addition to chart-topping achievements and countless collaborations, Watch The Sun is the next step in a remarkable career that continues to bridge styles, traditions and generations. A collection of 11 all new original songs, out now on his own Morton Records, Watch The Sun features Stevie Wonder, Nas, Jill Scott, JoJo, El DeBarge, Chronixx, Wale, Alex Isley and more, as the music delves further inward than ever before. Morton made the album at Louisiana’s storied Studio In The Country, where Allen Toussaint, Betty Davis, Stevie Wonder and others have all recorded, and he describes the album as an unapologetic painting of the true challenges in life and love. “I’m being more honest, more authentic, more open than I’ve been in the past,” he says.

Morton arrives at the GRAMMY Museum in the midst of his four-month, forty-date tour for Watch The Sun. With dozens of stops still on the way, he has recently performed at the Ryman Auditorium, a sold-out Apollo Theater, New Orleans and Newport Jazz Festivals, in addition to appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Good Morning America, CBS Mornings, The Kelly Clarkson Show and more this year.

Since the breakthrough of his Gumbo LP in 2017, PJ Morton has led a creative and critically-acclaimed streak of six albums, 12 GRAMMY nominations and 4 wins, his first-ever NAACP Image Award and Soul Train nominations, BET Award nominations, and much more. On top of his resume, which includes running his own record label and working as Maroon 5’s full-time keyboardist, he has also collaborated with Solange, Erykah Badu, Jon Batiste, Yebba and many others.
