As the longest-running Columbia Records artist, Johnny Mathis has carved the path for pop music with a sound transcendent of passing fads and trends. Mixing golden-age jazz, with the fresh and youthful sounds of pop, Mathis became a household name and timeless success. His 1958 release, Johnny’s Greatest Hits, was the first thematic compilation of its kind, revolutionizing the way music was compiled and heard by the public. The album was well received by the public and held its place on Billboard’s Top Albums Chart for an unprecedented 490 consecutive weeks. In addition to receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and countless other well- deserved honors, Mathis was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame for his classic hits, “Chances Are,” “It’s Not For Me To Say,” and “Misty,” further cementing his name, and iconic voice in music history. In his newest album, Sending You A Little Christmas, Mathis returns with a newly-recorded compilation of seasonal classics, featuring duets with guest artists including Susan Boyle, Jim Brickman, Natalie Cole, Gloria Estefan, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Billy Joel and The Jordanaires. Join us as we welcome the great musical icon to the Clive Davis Theater to celebrate the release of Sending You A Little Christmas, with an interview, moderated by Vice President of The GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares Scott Goldman, and performance.
