A Night At The Ash Grove, A Special Pacific Standard Time- Art In Los Angeles: 1945 – 1980 Event

The Ash Grove opened its doors in 1958 as a cabaret where barriers between genres, cultures, generations, and communities were left at the door. Founded by Ed Pearl in a former furniture warehouse on Melrose Boulevard, the venue became a beloved space for music, theater, and progressive politics, and featured an extraordinary list of iconic performers such as Muddy Waters, Lenny Bruce, Joan Baez, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Pete Seeger, Odetta, and Ravi Shankar. The diversity of music was a foundation for the Ash Grove’s larger social vision, and the club became a laboratory for free thinking artistic and political community– a meeting place for music fans and activists of all generations, from hippies and celebrities to Black Panthers and truckers. Join us for a special celebration of the Ash Grove’s legacy. Moderated by Trouble In Paradise Music in L.A. 1945 – 1975 curator/University of Southern California Professor Josh Kun, the evening will feature performances by Barbara Morrison – with Bernie Pearl Blues Band, Wanda Coleman, Austin Straus, John Harris, Florence Weinberger, Ross Altman and Jill Fenimore.
