As lead singer of ’60s sensation the Box Tops and the groundbreaking band Big Star, musician Alex Chilton has a remarkable story that needs to be heard. Who better than long-time acquaintance and award-winning writer Holly George-Warren to do the honors? In the captivating biography, A Man Called Destruction, George-Warren tells the life tale of an artist who “left behind… many lifetimes of brilliant music, a legacy that will inspire generations to come.” Chilton’s story is rags to riches in reverse, beginning with teenage rock stardom and heading downward. The story of Chilton’s life is also the story of the changes in Rock & Roll over the past forty years. The influence and mark he has left as a pioneer of the indie-rock genre is undeniable. Please join us as we welcome award-winning author Holly George-Warren alongside GRAMMY Museum director Bob Santelli, to the Clive Davis Theater to celebrate and discuss the life of the talented, influential, and underappreciated rock and roll genius, Alex Chilton, from start to finish.
