Richard Lewis has taken his lifelong therapy fodder and carved it into a commanding, compelling art form.  His early career as a stand-up comedian brought him to the top of the ranks.  Over time and through a variety of mediums, Lewis broadened his exposure and more and more came to appreciate his brilliantly warped view of the world.  The New York Times said, “This renowned comedian, often considered to be the heir to Lenny Bruce, is a master of long form storytelling who turns his endless neurotic energy into brilliant comedy.”  Comedy Central has recognized Richard Lewis as one of the top 50 stand-up comedians of all time.  He has sold out Carnegie Hall and charted on GQ Magazine’s list of the “20th Century’s Most Influential Humorists.”  His seasons on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” with best friend Larry David, were an incredible experience.  In September 2014, Lewis released Bundle of Nerves, a 2-disc box set that includes never distributed, timeless films spanning over four decades.  It includes the 1979 classic cult film, “Diary of a Young Comic,” an early production from Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, “Drunks,” and “Magical Misery Tour,” the acclaimed HBO special taped live at the famous Bottom Line in New York City and a fresh documentary where he shares his passion for the arts and his career through countless Lewisian artifacts.  His second book, Reflections from Hell, is set to be released in 2015, as well as the Bogdanovich film, “She’s Funny That Way,” which was shown at the 2014 Venice Film Festival.  Please join us as we continue our celebration of comedy and welcome Richard Lewis to the Clive Davis Theater for an interview with VP, The GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares, Scott Goldman.
