About
Music Industry Career Day

The GRAMMY In The Schools Music Industry Career Day Program is a regional music industry career day presented in partnership with the local Recording Academy Chapter that provides insight to high school students about careers that are available to them in the music industry, and direction on how to prepare for them. This program provides an opportunity for students to interact with professionals representing a wide range of careers. Speakers include GRAMMY® winners and nominees and professionals in related disciplines. These interactive sessions take students through the inner workings of the industry to learn exactly what it takes to make it in the business.

Welcome & Keynote Panel

1 Hour – Careers in the Music Industry

Hear directly from music professionals—artists, producers, engineers, managers, and more—about the many paths you can take in the music world. Learn how they got started, their day-to-day looks, and how they turned their passion into a profession. Whether you're interested in performing, working behind the scenes, or exploring the business side of music, this conversation will help you discover the exciting possibilities in the industry.

Workshops

50 Minutes – Students Will Rotate (Offered Twice)

Production 101

Using a digital audio workstation, students will learn about producing a track on the spot, different careers in the recording industry, including the role of the music producer, and the evolution of production from vinyl records to current techniques. Students will be encouraged to create their own beats and, if interested, sign up for our extended after-school programs to dive deeper.

Songwriting 101

Students will participate in an interactive workshop where they will be introduced to different songwriting structures by analyzing popular music. Students will then participate in a songwriting exercise and will be encouraged to share their songs.

A comprehensive survey and discussion covering a wide range of music careers and opportunities in today’s music industry. Students will also learn tips on how to embark in a career in the industry.
