The Drop: Vince Staples

The Grammy Museum is thrilled to welcome one of the most compelling voices of his generation, Vince Staples for an evening discussing his new album, Cry Baby, his creative process, tour, and more, with a special performance in the Museum’s intimate 200-seat Clive Davis Theater.

Firmly established as a generational talent, across his career Staples has consistently expanded his reach across music, film, and television; but it’s within music that he continues to sharpen his edge as a singular storyteller and cultural force. Following the deeply introspective lens of Ramona Park Broke My Heart, a melancholic homage to his hometown, and Dark Times, which pushed even further inward, his new album Cry Baby turns outward, processing the endlessly repeating cycles of American tumult and reflecting them back with sharply honed clarity and intent.

Beyond the lyrics and subject matter, Cry Baby also signals a bold musical and sonic shift. Staples built each track around live instrumentation, underscoring the album’s immediacy and urgency. The result is a dynamic, confrontational body of work that captures the tension, absurdity, and emotional weight of America – an album that doesn’t just document the times and its precedents, but actively wrestles with them.

The album is the opening salvo of the iconic musician’s independent era, a moment during which he’s directly engaged with fans time and time again – from manning the booth selling tickets at El Rey Theatre for his album release show, to inviting people to attend his band’s rehearsals at The Smell, all the while releasing the album’s series of thought-provoking music videos directly to fans first on Discord. The Grammy Museum event continues that thread as his live discussion of the album will count among the the first and only public statements from the artist, who has eschewed traditional interviews about the album, about this critical new work in his oeuvre.

• Vinyl, memorabilia, gifts, etc. will NOT be allowed inside the building. 
• Cameras (including digital and point and shoot cameras), video cameras, and any other professional photography & videography equipment will NOT be permitted for this event. 
• NO re-entry from the Grammy Museum premises.
• Valid physical ID is necessary for check-in. 
• Tickets are non-transferrable. Reselling tickets is strictly prohibited.

The holder of this ticket is granted admission to the indicated facility for the purpose of viewing the specified event. If this ticket is sold, otherwise conveyed or used in violation of this policy, it will be deemed revoked and void, and its holder deemed a trespasser at all Recording Academy events. This ticket is a revocable license and admission may be refused by refunding the face amount of the ticket or ejection may occur for failure to comply with any facility rule. The holder agrees not to transmit or aid in transmitting any description, picture, recording or reproduction of the event. The holder acknowledges that the event may be captured and recorded by audio, audiovisual, and/or photographic means, and hereby grants permission to utilize the holder’s image and/or voice in any and all media now known or hereafter devised to further the interests and mission of the Recording Academy.
