ABOUT THE GREAT BIG JOY MACHINE

The Great Big Joy Machine is a genre-blending collective best known for their nightly performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where they have spent more than a decade performing and radiating joy to millions of viewers on national television. As they step fully into their own chapter, the band brings their shared history, chemistry, and musical range beyond late night and into the wider world. Built through years of high-pressure live performance, the group blends tight arrangements with improvisation rooted in soul, funk, rock, jazz, R&B, Brazilian, Afro-Caribbean, and world music. Individually and together, the members have collaborated with artists including Buddy Guy, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Carole King, OAR, George Clinton, Lake Street Dive, Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Palmieri, Lalah Hathaway, Bilal, Juicy J, and Solange Knowles, among many others. Their breadth of experience comes together in music that is technically assured, fearlessly adventurous, and emotionally powerful. At its core, The Great Big Joy Machine is about connection – between players, between genres, and between the band and its audience – creating a sound that is unmistakably rooted in joy.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Born out of over a decade of nightly performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Great Big Joy Machine steps fully into its own with a self‑titled debut album that captures the band’s signature blend of virtuosity, heart, and communal joy. Recorded entirely at the historic Ed Sullivan Theater, the album channels soul, funk, rock, jazz, R&B, Brazilian, Afro-Caribbean, and world music into an exuberant, deeply human listening experience. All proceeds from the album benefit MusiCares, underscoring the band’s commitment to supporting the music community beyond the stage.
