GRAMMY Camp New York is a seven-day, non-residential immersive music industry program designed for high school students who already have foundational skills and knowledge in music and are ready to expand their expertise toward career preparation. GRAMMY Camp New York offers instruction across multiple career tracks including Music Business, Instrumental Performance, Music Production, and Singer/Songwriter. Additional specialized tracks in Musical Theater and Jazz are offered, reflecting the city’s rich artistic heritage and its prominent role in these industries.
Through the process of creating media projects, recordings, and performances, participants build on their existing abilities while developing a deeper understanding of industry practices. Guided by GRAMMY-winning and -nominated professionals, Recording Academy members, industry experts, and guest artists, students engage in collaborative, hands-on learning experiences that emphasize creativity, problem-solving, and professional growth.
Description:
Campers will receive comprehensive instruction on recording techniques, including mic technique, signal flow, and sonic shaping both in studio and live applications. Campers will also learn aspects of traditional music production through to music creation with digital instruments with learning methods of programming, editing, sampling, and mixing on digital audio workstations to help further develop their original compositions. Campers will how learn innovative techniques in digital music production, remixing, and sound manipulation to combine performance, composition, and orchestration with computer, synthesis, and multimedia technology. Students should have at least a rudimentary understanding of recording equipment and be familiar with basic audio terminology (i.e., microphone, compression, reverb, etc.) and digital audio workstations (DAW).

Submit one music and/or video selections as MP3s YouTube or SoundCloud links of projects you have recorded and/or mixed either in a recording or live performance setting.
You must provide a brief yet detailed description of what you did and how you did it for each selection (i.e., recorded, mixed, equipment used, location, etc.). Aspiring singer/songwriters will sharpen the skills of their craft while exploring song structure, harmony, melody, lyric writing, and (where applicable) vocal technique. This track will also provide Campers with the opportunity to collaborate with a band, singers, and other songwriters. They will also gain valuable insight on sound business practices including effective marketing. This Career Track does not require you to be a singer. However, you should have a rudimentary understanding of music theory, and having some keyboard or guitar performance abilities is highly recommended.
Submission Requirements:
Video of you or someone else singing two of your original compositions. If someone else is performing, you must make an on-camera introduction of each song and the performer(s).
All songs must be written solely by you. Please upload your video to YouTube and submit your link(s). You are encouraged to submit lyric sheets with your songs and/or put the lyrics in the YouTube description.

There are many careers in music that make the success of an artist possible. This Career Track will explore the inner workings of the music business including marketing, management, touring, concert production, publicity, entertainment law, and entrepreneurship in this ever-changing industry. Students should have a passion for exploring the non-performance roles on an artist’s team and a basic knowledge of the current music industry.

Description:
Students will develop as performers incorporating acting, music and dance to enhance their ability to be a triple threat. In this track campers will build their repertoire in both music and dance, singing for the stage and a study of the American musical. The program will bridge classical methods of various cultures through drama, music and dance to contemporary performances happening currently. Students will also learn about the business of musical theater from grand rights to filling a theater.
Submission Requirements:
Singing—Performing two contrasting pieces (required)
Acting—One monologue from a published play or written by a professional writer.
Dancing—(optional but highly recommended)
Christen James is an award-winning creative multi-hyphenate. As an artist, Christen is a classically trained vocalist, having performed across the US and abroad, including appearances at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, and Lincoln Center. Christen is also a Tony Award-winning Broadway producer. Her credits include the Tony-winning musical New York, New York, the history-making musical How To Dance In Ohio, and the Tony winner for Best Revival of a Play, Appropriate (starring Sarah Paulson—Tony Award-winner for Best Actress in a Play; Corey Stoll—Tony Award-nominee for Best Supporting Actor in a Play; Michael Esper, Natalie Gold, and Ella Beaty). Currently, Christen serves as a co-producer for the Broadway revival of William Shakespeare’s Othello, starring Tony Award and Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, and Tony Award and Academy Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal. Christen has also been awarded top honors from the Drama League, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
Christen is a proud Board Member of NYC’s Signature Theatre, and has received honors from the U.S. Army, Howard University, American Cancer Society, and her alma mater, Seton Hall University. She has been featured in ESSENCE Magazine and The New York Times, and appeared on FOX, CBS, and Paramount Networks.
Jason Goldman has gained prominence as a saxophonist, composer, producer, and songwriter in the fields of popular music and jazz. He was selected by multi-GRAMMY winning producer and songwriter David Foster to be the featured saxophone soloist for Michael Bublé. Goldman has toured extensively with Bublé and has arrangements on three of Bublé’s multi-platinum selling records, solidifying himself as a top tier, in-demand writer and musician.
Lee Dannay is Head of A&R at Thirty Tigers, a premier independent label services company renowned for its innovative approach to marketing, distribution, and creative development. With over three decades of experience in A&R and music publishing, Lee has held senior executive roles at Columbia Records, Epic Records, and Warner/Chappell Music, where her visionary leadership played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of celebrated artists such as John Mayer, Brandi Carlile, Train, and Moby. Today, she continues to champion artistic excellence, working with an esteemed roster that includes Corinne Bailey Rae, Rosanne Cash, Amos Lee, Bruce Hornsby, Béla Fleck, and Taj Mahal.
A passionate advocate for the creative community, Lee currently serves as President of the New York Chapter of the Recording Academy. Beyond her industry leadership, she is deeply committed to philanthropy and education, actively contributing to organizations such as Musicians on Call and mentoring emerging talent through She Is the Music and Grammy U. She also serves on the boards of We Are Moving the Needle, Music Will, and the Cornell Media Guild. Based in New York City, Tiger Darrow is an award-winning singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Beginning her career as a classically trained cellist, Tiger crafts her songs with intricate string arrangements and distorted beats, fusing the aggressive with the delicate. The Dark-Alt pop singer draws inspiration from St. Vincent, Ethan Gruska, and Julia Wolf. Her production credits include Dezi’s “Chaos Mode” and Rachel Bochner’s “Ghosted My Therapist,” both of which gained recognition on TikTok and together have accrued over 10 million streams on Spotify. As a vocalist and cellist, Darrow has been featured in dozens of artists’ music, including Kanye West, Durand Jones & The Indications, Alexander Stewart, L’Rain, Alex Warren, Maddie Zahm, Jordy, Will Jay, and more. Her voice and music have also been featured in a variety of soundtracks and commercials such as Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, Spy Kids 5: Armageddon, Red 11, and Cathy Yan's award-winning Dead Pigs.
