Reel To Reel: SWEETWATER

The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to host a special screening of the new feature film, SWEETWATER, about the first African American to sign an NBA contract. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion hosted by star cast member Jeremy Piven, and a live performance featuring Artists from the movie soundtrack. Panelists include Verdine White (Soundtrack), Neal Pogue (Producer), John Burk (Producer), Martin Guigui (Writer/Director), and cast members Everett Osborne, Jeremy Piven, and Emmaline.

The story of Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton follows New York Knicks head coach Joe Lapchick, and owner of the Knicks Ned Irish in their mission to break the color line in the NBA by courting Globetrotter “Sweetwater” Clifton, the best yet “unknown” basketball player of that era. A powerful and dangerous war of politics take on cultural evolution as Sweetwater attempts to overcome all odds to fulfill his destiny of bringing change and a “new” game to the world. The triumph of the human spirit that would open doors inspiring the innovative play of iconic greats Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Connie Hawkins, Julius Irving, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and the brilliant stars of today’s global game of basketball.
