Reel To Reel: CNN Original Series: The Seventies

The GRAMMY Museum will host a special screening of an upcoming new episode of CNN’s Original Series, The Seventies. The episode, “What’s Goin’ On,” delves into how American popular music exploded into new formats like disco and punk in the ’70s, while established artists like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder found a new creative voice. A panel discussion will follow the screening featuring Rolling Stone contributing editor and Emmy-nominated TV writer David Wild, journalist/filmmaker Nelson George, singer/songwriter/actor JD Souther, and TV/film/music producer Suzanne De Passe. From Emmy Award-winning producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman (Playtone), in association with HBO and Emmy Award-winning producer Mark Herzog (Herzog & Company), The Seventies examines the individuals and events that influenced and shaped a decade that had a profound impact on America. Through the use of raw and rarely seen archival footage, as well as interviews with journalists, historians, musicians and television artists who were eyewitnesses to history, The Seventies paints a vivid portrait of a period of lasting consequence. The eight-part hour-long docuseries, airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, explores television of the ’70s, the impact of the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, the evolving music scene, the Iran Hostage Crisis, violent crimes in America, the sexual revolution, and the rise in terrorism at home and abroad.
