Celebrate the 50th Anniversary! Hosted and created by Marvin EtzioniImagine a theater. As Chuck Berry would say, “the place is packed.” The lights go out. An album cover is on the screen, and suddenly, a vinyl record begins to play. From the first song on side one, to the last song on side two — no phones, no computers, no interruptions. This is The Record Theater. Back for the fifth time by popular demand, the GRAMMY Museum invites you to the Clive Davis Theater to experience The Record Theater. An American mono pressing of The Beatles’ Rubber Soul on Capitol Records awaits the needle drop. Released on Dec. 6, 1965, Rubber Soul climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and won John Lennon and Paul McCartney a GRAMMY for Song Of The Year for “Michelle.” After the record ends, special guests Dave Morrell, author of “1974 — The Promotion Man — New York City: The Morrell Archives Volume 2,” Brian Kehew, co-author of Recording The Beatles, and Chris Carter, host of Breakfast with the Beatles on KLOS, will join Record Theater creator Marvin Etzioni onstage for a discussion. Rubber Soul is the first Beatles album to not have the name of the group on the front cover design. As it says on the back cover “this monophonic microgroove recording… cannot become obsolete.” Find out why. Get your tickets now! Screaming girls will not be admitted without a legal guardian.
