Today’s lesson acquaints students with Musical Instrument Digital Interfaces (MIDI) by providing a brief history on the concept of recording note information instead of sound–piggy backing on earlier concepts such as rolls for the Player Piano. The class will break into groups to begin creating their very own bass and synth MIDIs for their compositions as well as learning to loop their baselines for a consistency throughout their song. Each group will play their songs for the rest of the class for peer-review to share what works and what doesn’t. This will allow students to fine-tune their work, figure out their own voice as artists, and provide them the technical knowhow to record their information via MIDI for future playbacks.
